Meet the Coach

Ben Bush has been with us at DLTC for just over a year now. Ben is the Club Coach and responsible for all the coaching at the club. He has been coaching full time for over 10 years across various clubs in Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Over this time Ben has gained experience coaching adults and juniors through individual and group sessions. Many of these players have gone on to gain county, regional and national rankings.

Ben is an LTA Qualified Coach (Level 3), DBS checked, and trained in Safeguarding Children and First Aid.

Throughout a typical week at DLTC Ben delivers a number of sessions with something for everyone. Whether you’re a beginner and looking for lessons to get you started, an advanced player looking for coaching to progress your tennis further, or just looking to gain extra exercise in a fun and sociable environment our DLTC Coaching Programme will have a session for you.

Ben says: “My aim at the club is to deliver a Coaching Programme that is inclusive and accessible to all ages and abilities. I aim to make each session challenging and focused whilst keeping them fun for all involved. Tennis is not an easy sport to ‘pick up and play’ for the first time but with specialist equipment and tailored sessions (Cardio Tennis, Tennis Express, Mini Tennis, etc.) the game is now easier than ever!”

Davenport LTC is a great place to develop your game!

Junior Coaching

Mini Red

Mini Tennis Red is for players aged 8 and under. It is played on small courts with short rackets and soft balls. It’s just like the real game and gives players opportunities to have long rallies and play different types of shots.

Mini Orange

Mini Tennis Orange is a great way for players to continue their progress from Mini Tennis Red and is for players aged 8 and 9. It is played with shorter rackets, softer balls and courts are bigger and wider than the red stage but still smaller than full-size tennis courts allowing players to develop a rounded game whilst learning a range of techniques and tactics.

Mini Green

Mini Tennis Green is a great way for players to continue their progress from Mini Tennis Orange. It is played on a full size tennis court, with bigger rackets and balls which are a little softer than yellow balls. It’s the next stage before moving on to full compression yellow balls on a full sized court and helps players develop and improve all aspects of their game.

Yellow Group

After the Green Tennis players continue with full size courts but the full pressured yellow ball is introduced. These lessons are tailored to 11-18yrs olds and cover technical and tactical requirements for the game.

If you’ve never played, not played in a while or looking to add to your existing skills and knowledge then this class would be great for you. The coaching includes the stroke techniques and doubles tactics necessary to enjoy the game at club level.

These sessions are aimed at a higher level and include more intense drills with a focus on match play tactics and positioning necessary for competitive team tennis. Technique is also covered at a more advanced level.

Cardio Tennis

Cardio Tennis is a high energy fitness activity that combines the best features of the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercise, delivering the ultimate, full body, calorie-burning aerobic workout. Most women can burn 300 to 500 calories per hour and men burn between 500 to 1,000. Take a look at how it works...
